Persistence Pays Off as Brandon and Conroy Win First NWT Event and $3200

Sherman Winners

The bite was a tough one on Sherman Reservoir for the annual Trade Winds Marina Ice Out Tournament April 12 and 13, 2014.  Fortunately, for the team of Dave Brandon and Joe Conroy it was a little different, as they win the 33 boat field with a winning weight of 10.04 pounds.   Persistence paid off for Brandon and Conroy as were casting the face of the dam the majority of the day.  “We casted number 5 and 7 shad raps in 2-6 feet of water parallel to the dam.  We have worked really hard for a long time to win a NWT tournament.  We want to thank everyone for putting on such a great event.  The NWT has an elite group of fisherman that are always extremely tough competitors.”  Commented Brandon after their first ever NWT win. The win cashed the duo a check for $3200.   Everyone in the field knew with such a tough bite that every fish was important if they wanted to cash a check.  Indeed it was very true. Finishing in second place was the team of Mike Woerth and James Paul with one fish for 2.82 pounds and Big Fish of the tournament earning them a total payday of $2325 cash.  Finishing 3rd for $950 was Justin Heflin and Ethan Penner with 1.98 pounds.  Tied for Fourth and spitting $650 with 1.91 pounds was Mark and Michelle Leeds and Justin Hampton and Josh Tuenge.
